AKA: Kaiketsu Yanchamaru

In the Famicom era, especially its earlier years, it was common to publish dedicated strategy guides for individual titles. They are known as complete capture technique books (完全攻略テクニックブック), or simply as capture books (攻略 本), and they’re noticeably smaller than what a gamer in the west might remember as a strategy guide. I have a technique book for one of my all-time favorite games, that being Irem’s Kaiketsu Yanchamaru (AKA: Kid Niki: Radical Ninja).
It’s in full color, and packed to the brim with art and screenshots showcasing every single enemy found in the game, as well as tips and strategies for the levels and boss encounters, plus guides showcasing the scoring mechanisms and bonus rooms hidden throughout the game.
I figure I’d show this off, since it’s basically a companion piece to my FC/NES collection. This is the only technique book I’ve acquired at this point, as I was lucky enough to find it included alongside my copy of Kaiketsu Yanchamaru (Kid Niki: Radical Ninja).
In the future, I might try to track down more of these for some of my other favorite games.
